Inspiration Is All Around You

With summer coming to an end, this is a great time to reflect. This past summer, I was in a bit of a creative rut. I moved to New York last January and expected with a new city grand new photoshoot ideas would come. This was not the case for me. Sitting down trying to come up with photoshoots kept drawing blanks.
On one of my weekend trips to the shore, I decided to relax and let inspiration come to me. I walked to the beach at golden hour snapping photos. By just being present and admiring what I saw, a beauty story took shape.
I’ve been coming to Cape May since I was a child. This allows me to know the area on a more personal level having visited these beaches for many years. Seeing the driftwood and small shells paired with the complementary colors of blues and oranges was so inspiring.
I snapped some frames to later pair with in studio model images. Once back in New York, I faced two new challenges. I had to translate my vision to the team and talent. How do you explain that you are walking on the beach when actually you are in a studio in LIC. Lastly, I had to get a soft enough natural-looking light setup to mimic what I saw in Cape May.
Fortunate enough, all my team understood what I was looking for. I provided a couple of sample images and a mood board, and we were off. The lighting came together as well. I mixed natural light with a small pop of strobe. Paige Packard of Crawford Models and Julia Paige of RED Model Management were amazing to work with and fully captured my vision.

On thing this photoshoot has taught me is there is inspiration all around you. You just have to be open to see it. Enjoy the images and videos from this shoot and feel free to let me know what you think.
