Denim for All Body Types: Behind the Lens of an Inclusive Photoshoot

Denim is timeless. From vintage flares to tailored skinny jeans, it has a way of weaving itself into every woman’s wardrobe. But one thing fashion has often overlooked is how denim should look and feel across all body types. At Wyche Studios, we believe every woman deserves to see herself represented—and celebrated—through fashion photography.

As a New York City fashion photographer, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of models, and one of the most rewarding projects to shoot is an inclusive denim campaign. It’s about more than just jeans; it’s about telling a story of confidence, comfort, and style that resonates with every woman who sees the images.

What Does It Take to Photograph Inclusive Denim?

1. Thoughtful Casting

The foundation of any inclusive shoot begins with casting. Representation matters. For denim especially, that means working with women of different sizes, shapes, heights, and ages. Denim isn’t one-size-fits-all—so the faces wearing it shouldn’t be either. The goal is to capture the essence of how denim adapts to each body and personality.

2. Styling That Works With, Not Against, the Body

Inclusive styling is about highlighting—not hiding. Denim should move with the body and feel effortless. Working with stylists who understand fit, proportion, and how different cuts flatter various silhouettes ensures that each model feels comfortable and authentic in front of the lens.

3. Lighting That Flatters Every Shape

Photography is storytelling with light. When shooting denim on a diverse group of models, I use lighting that softens, shapes, and brings out the best in every curve and angle. Inclusive photography means making sure no one feels overlooked or less than in the frame.

4. Posing with Purpose

Different bodies tell different stories, and posing is key to allowing each model’s personality to shine. Instead of cookie-cutter stances, I encourage natural movement—walking, sitting, leaning, laughing. This makes the denim feel lived-in and relatable.

5. Celebrating Authenticity

The most powerful images come when models feel seen and celebrated as themselves. That means creating a set environment where everyone feels comfortable, respected, and valued. The camera can sense authenticity, and audiences can too.

Why Inclusive Denim Campaigns Matter

Fashion photography has the power to shape how women see themselves. When denim is showcased on a variety of body types, it challenges the old standard of “ideal” and instead embraces the idea that every body is the right body for denim.

At Wyche Studios, we approach these shoots with the mindset that inclusivity isn’t a trend—it’s the standard. When a woman scrolls through a campaign and sees someone who looks like her, she’s not just seeing denim. She’s seeing possibility, confidence, and beauty reflected back.

👉 If you’re a fashion brand looking to create an inclusive denim campaign—or any campaign that speaks to real women—I’d love to collaborate. Let’s create imagery that celebrates every body.
